About Us

Shirley's Yarns & Gifts has been a staple in the Downeast Maine community for over 50 years!

It all started with a small corner..

Shirley Jones, an avid knitter, was lamenting the fact that she couldn’t find quality yarn in the area.

Her husband, Dick Jones, was busy selling mobile homes on Route 1 and offered to give her a little space in his office building to open what they both thought would be a small business.

And then, as her business grew and grew, he added onto the space.

Today it is a substantial year-round business that carries much more than yarn.

On any given day, customers can find home decor, art supplies, crafts for all ages, games, puzzles, toys, fudge, jams and jellies, books by local authors for adults and children, as well as supplies to create needlepoint, cross stitch and latch hook rugs.

Oh, and lots of cubicles and racks filled with yarn. The largest selection on the coast of Maine.

Although Dick & Shirley have both passed now, the store remains family run by their daughter Kiana. You will still find the love and dedication that both of them poured into the business over the years hasn't wavered. When you walk into the store - you too will feel like part of the family.
